What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy accesses the power of the unconscious mind using the imagination to evoke change. The conscious mind is responsible for decision making, critical thinking, and orchestrates action in accordance with the individual's belief system. It is really the tip of the iceberg in the context of the mind. Beneath the ocean line of the iceberg lies the greater expanse - the unconscious mind, which holds our genetic information, all information from conception to present, and it controls our behaviour, beliefs, emotions and bodily functions.
Consider the last time you cut yourself, did you have to consciously tell the body to reduce blood flow to the affected area? Did you have to tell your proteins and platelets to form a scab? Did you then tell your skin to begin repairing underneath the scab? At a conscious level the answer to these questions is obviously 'no', the unconscious knew exactly what to do and the body acted automatically. Often we take this genius that lays within us for granted - it's the same genius that knew how to form a human being from one cell - there was no thought required only instinctive action.
During a hypnosis session, the natural power that subsists within the unconscious mind is harnessed, and those things that may have seemed impossible become possible. When in a hypnotic state, the unconscious can be re-programmed (much like a computer receiving a software upgrade) with new ideas and beliefs, creating profound and long lasting change.
Hypnosis is not an eerie state, it is a completely natural state of mind that we drift in and out of all day. For example, if you have ever been engrossed in a book or captivated while watching television, you drifted into hypnosis. If you have ever driven in a car, arrived at to your destination and realised you were not able to recall a single part of the journey, you went into hypnosis. Hypnosis isn't mind control, you can't be made to do anything you don't want to do and almost always you will remember everything that happened in the session.
Hypnotherapy differs from traditional forms of therapy which tend to focus on dealing with issues at the conscious level, often with hours and hours of talk therapy where an issue is often dissected in many different ways. I am not saying there is no value with traditional methods, however, understanding a problem doesn't always cause an issue to go away, as I'm sure all people have experienced, will power alone is not enough to make a problem disappear. With hypnosis and NLP, results can be yielded very quickly, and come much more naturally and easily, because change is not being willed at a conscious level. Instead, the process goes directly to the powerhouse of the mind - the unconscious.
As no two people hold the same belief system or interpret information in the same way, my approach to applying Hypnotherapy and NLP are completely client centred, and sessions are tailored to the individual's needs.
What to expect?
A session with me will last up to 1.5 hours and can be held remotely or in person. For remote sessions all you need is access to the internet, a webcam and a space where you won't be disturbed.
When you arrive to your session (either in person or remote) expect to land in a space that is open, calm, positive and non-judgmental.
I will ask questions to gain an understanding of your issue and together we will unravel new ways of understanding with 'ah ha' moments.
People often comment that they find it incredibly easy to open up to me, often times people share things they have never shared with others before.
I consider myself a facilitator not a healer, you are the one who does the healing by accessing the inner power that is waiting to be awakened.
